FitzWGC Guide Book

Revision 5 – 6 January 2023

About

The Fitz Wordle Golf Championship is a “golfing” contest based on Twitter and the word game Wordle rather than wandering around a golf course trying to hit a little white ball into a small hole.

The competition is open to all keen Wordlers.

Rounds of the championship used to be announced on Twitter by Club Captain @Peter_Fitz but since he lost interest this is no longer the case.

On 28 December 2022, following a poorly promoted and supported Summer Round turned un-official commencing 1 December the Skipper decreed that henceforth events will be held in summer (start 1 January), autumn (start 1 April), winter (start 1 July) and spring (start 1 October).
MARK YOUR DIARIES.

Final leaderboard results from already completed rounds (scored by @rockoyster up to and including Round 3) can be found under Previous Results below. @Turner_JasonC took over as scorer from the start of the 1 January 2023 round.

Rules

Anyone can play along but the virtual “Trophy” is limited to players in Australian time zones.

Competitors play 18 holes (consecutive days of Wordle).

Competitors play the daily hole and then must Tweet their score using the Wordle share feature and include the hashtag #FitzWGC and a running total.

For example:

Commentary is optional, but welcome, especially if self-deprecatory.

RT indicates a running total of scores up to the current hole. N.B. Players in Rounds 1, 2 and 3 will be used to reporting RT as xx/nn (where xx is your running total and nn is hole number X 6 (eg 74/108  for hole 18). That format is no longer required. You can basically report running total anyway you like. Or not at all if you find it too embarrassing!

There is no need to @ the scorer in your Tweet.

Not essential but it is not a bad idea to tweet your daily scores as a thread by replying to your previous day’s score tweet with your latest score tweet. Keeps all your scores in a convenient place and helps with reporting running total.

You do not need to play in Hard Mode but if you don’t then you will be deemed to playing in the amateur ranks and will not be in contention for the leaderboard or in the running to win the virtual #FitzWGC Trophy. If you are playing in Hard Mode your Wordle score will show as 4/6* (for example). No asterisk and you don’t have Hard Mode turned on in Wordle Settings.

You must complete each hole in 6 or less “strokes”. If you fail to get the answer in 6 then you should report X/6 which is a one way ticket to the Clubhouse.

Play and reporting of scores is based entirely on an honour system.

Any player who gratuitously puts into question the integrity of another player may be summarily disqualified at the sole discretion of the match referees.

Leader Board

A leaderboard showing approximately the top 20-placed golfers will be published after each hole of the back nine is completed.

To be included on the leaderboard you must report your daily score:

  • as x/6* (only Hard Mode players will be counted);
  • for each of the 18 days of the competition; and,
  • within the 24 hour period commencing 12:00am Australian Eastern Standard Time. (Sorry folks out West and in SA but you get a reduced reporting window).

Where your running total appearing in the leaderboard differs from the running total you have maintained, the leaderboard score will take precedence.

Scoring Terminology
